 Web directory is virtual truck stop along I-88

The blue square signs along the interstate try and entice road-weary travelers to stop for awhile at Don's Diner or Karla's Krafts.

Drivers flying by at 65 miles an hour, sometimes shamefully faster, may be more tempted if they had some more time to consider.

 One entrepreneur is trying to reach out to those drivers before they hit the road - and she's using the Web to do it.  
Lee Munholand of Sidney is the owner of Munholand.Com, her home-based Web design company. In January, she created Upstate 88 (www.upstate88.com), a new regional services directory that she hopes will help travelers and locals alike plan trips around the area. 

And, much like the Yellow Pages, even those who don't support upstate88 with their advertising dollars will get their names, numbers and addresses in anyway to create a full-service directory for Web surfers.

"And I think the name (Upstate 88) will become a local buzzword for tourism," she said. The directory covers restaurants, various businesses, retail, services and more along I-88 from Binghamton to Albany.

"It's perfect for people who want to see what's going on nearby, and for travelers through the upstate New York region," she said. Munholand wants it to become a virtual neighborhood with comprehensive listings.

Bringing the Interstate to the information highway.

 Lee Munholand received her degree in Visual Communications from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Since that time she's owned a Pro-Design and Photo Studio in Pittsburgh, and in 1991 started up Munholand.com, her design and publishing business in Sidney, New York.  Husband and pro-photographer, Bart isalso available for both studio and on location photos in multiple formats.

Munholand thinks that people who live around the area are looking for new and fun things to do. In its first month, Upstate 88 had 3,000 visitors, and 33,000 by it's second month online.

Munholand looks forward to an emerging market - personal computers for use on the road inside cars.

After that, the sky - or at least the length of the road - is the limit.

Upstate88 is a hit!
Upstate 88 went online Januay 1, 2000 to serve the area with an insightful regional directory of business and tourism.

The directory, created by Lee Munholand, has received over 33,000 visits to one or more of it's 75 directory pages in it's first 60 days of operation and from as far away as the United Kingdom. The majority of visitors as expected are from the upstate, New York area.

Upstate88 has excellent advertising visibility and prices for any budget. The idea is that all businesses and pleasures can be seen on upstate 88's chunk of the information highway.
